Blackbird by The Beatles Song Analysis

This lesson explores the use of symbolism and theme by one of the world's most beloved bands, The Beatles, in their hit song, Blackbird. Students will analyze the lyrics for Blackbird, as well an Audubon Podcast (transcript available) and a Rolling Stone article. The article and podcast provide thoughtful explanations from Paul McCartney behind why the song was written.

This lesson is a powerful tool to help students in poetry units understand symbolism and theme. It is also provides engaging discussion points for historical lessons on the Civil Rights Movement and racism.
