This language arts mystery is perfect for groups of students who will need to use their detective skills as they work to solve the mystery of the stolen trophy. With reading and language tasks included, this activity is perfect for a Fun Football Friday before the Super Bowl or any day during the month of February.
Clue #1 (compound words) – Each suspect has a word. Use the cards to see how many compound words you can create! The person who creates the most words did NOT steal the football trophy.
Clue #2 (context clues/reading comprehension) – The story has some silly words. Use context clues to figure out what they mean! Whoever has the wrong answer is NOT the football trophy thief!
Clue #3 (abc order) – The puzzle pieces have words on them. Figure out how to put the puzzle together. Whoever’s picture is in the completed puzzle is NOT the culprit!
Clue #4 (digraphs and trigraphs) – Digraphs and trigraphs can be at the beginning or end of a word. Sort the words to the correct person. Whoever has the most cards is NOT the trophy thief.
Clue #5 (complete sentences) – Each suspect has a sentence. Only one of them wrote their sentence correctly! Read each sentence. Whoever’s sentence is correct did NOT take the trophy for the big game.
