What educators are saying

I used this with 1st graders, so I adapted it to their level. They learned about many of the different activities of ants in an anthill, and then I put them in groups to create their own anthills using this resource. They loved putting the plastic ants I gave them into their custom anthills.
This is an AMAZING resource. It fit perfectly with my ESOL 2nd grade BUG unit. Students enjoyed researching the different elements and then building their own ant bed.

Description

Students are given a set of worksheets and ant hill tiles to create their science poster. Perfect activity for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade insect unit.

Check out the preview!

Students learn:

anatomy of an insect
life cycle of an ant
difference between herbivore and carnivore
role of queen vs. worker ant
purposes for ant chambers (nursery, food storage, etc.)

All of their research is organized into the coolest poster! Students make an actual ant colony with tunnels and chambers. Very fun!

Check out the preview of documents that you get with this file.

You will need:
poster board
glue
scissors

Ant colonies can be colored or you can have students "paint" the poster with glue and pour sand on for a really cool effect. Lots of opportunities for creativity and further learning with The Ant Project
