Description
Adding absolute phrases effectively can truly change students’ writing, and any classroom time used to teach this concept is time well spent!
This product contains the following:
• A twenty-seven slide Prezi with instruction and guided practice. Both the Prezi itself and a link to the web-based version is included in the file for your convenience.
• Guided notes page for the Prezi
• “Ticket out” activity
• Worksheet and answer key
• Five bell work assignments and answer key. Each one contains five questions reviewing absolute phrases. The first bell work assignment is meant to be used BEFORE the class has covered absolute phrases and serves as an “anticipatory set”
• A ten-question quiz and answer key
• Binder chart for students to track the absolute phrases they use in their own writing
Most files are in Microsoft Word so you can change them to fit your needs.
You can see the Prezi and all other documents in the preview file. If you haven’t used a Prezi in your classroom, I encourage you to give it a try. It is much more dynamic than PowerPoint and really keeps my students’ attention.
It helps if students understand the difference between phrases and clauses before focusing on absolute phrases. You can access that lesson here: Phrase or Clause? What's the Difference A great follow up to this lesson is Tuesday with Morris and the Absolute Phrase, a Prezi that analyzes the way the author uses absolute phrases.
