The 1932 Election with Hey Arnold!

Present the big election of 1932 through the context of Nickelodeon's Hey Arnold! Students will be filling out graphic organizer describing the characters Mr. Simmons and Mr. Wartz, then draw comparisons to the historical figures Hoover and Roosevelt. Works great with nearly any secondary level for creating multiple connections to content!

This lesson will cover the election of 1932 between Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. We will more closely look into the political ideologies that separate the two men. Hoover, a staunch pro-business/anti-regulation man like Coolidge, is a far cry from the regulatory nature of the New Deal program passed by FDR.
Students will be introduced to this lesson after already learning of the causes of the Great Depression, as well as the Dust Bowl in the Great Plains region. They will be able to use an understanding of these conditions to analyze the political ideology of Hoover and Roosevelt.
