Thanksgiving Social Skills

This is a great packet to use with your students for pragmatic skills this Thanksgiving and holiday season! It can be used for a variety of skill levels, including traditional pull-out AND push-in lessons, including Expected and Unexpected Language, Conversation starters, Problem Solving Tasks, and Perspective Taking task cards!

This Thanksgiving Social Skills packet includes the following holiday themed activities:

* Expected versus Unexpected Behaviors:

Use the following flashcards to identify "expected” versus “unexpected” responses/behaviors at Thanksgiving time. Sort the cards using the “Expected” and “Unexpected” mats (laminate those first!).

* Conversation Topics:

Ask students the following 24 Thanksgiving-themed Conversational topic cards. After responding, you can give students a “Pumpkin Pie! You're on Topic!” card or “You're a Turkey! Try again.” card. The student with more on-topic conversation cards wins! You can also use these to take data on the number of turns taken on each topic in conversation with students. Another idea would be to have students give both an appropriate AND inappropriate response to each topic to further demonstrate their knowledge of how to accurately respond in conversation!

Problem Solving Tasks

* Give students the following 20 Thanksgiving problem solving task cards. Have them generate as many possible solutions to the given "Thanksgiving" problems as possible!

Perspective Taking

* Give students the following 18 cards that give a Thanksgiving- related scenario and asks them to identify how someone in the scenario would feel. There can be more than 1 response to each card!
