What educators are saying

Students enjoyed playing the game. I love the ways that you can use the resource with different levels. It was fun and engaging.

Description

This is a Thanksgiving Dinner themed Phonics game that I created to help my first graders apply some of our phonics skills (CVC, Digraphs, Initial & Final Blends). I have also included blank pages for you to get creative and add your own (sight words, math facts, etc.) My class is very diverse so some of the food items include Latino/African American traditions.

Directions: Provide students with a plate. Take turns picking a card & reading the word. If it is a REAL word, say "Yes, please!" and add the card to your plate. If it is a nonsense word, say "No, thank you!" and discard the card in the center. Special directions cards prompt students to take a card from a friend and share a card with a friend. Be careful- if you eat TOO MUCH TURKEY, you must discard all your cards in the center!

Food pictures include: corn, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, salad, arroz con pernil (rice and pork), pastelillos (stuffed turnovers), tostones (fried plantains), applesauce, mac & cheese, collard greens, turkey cookies, rolls, apple pie, flan (custard), mixed vegetables, brussel sprouts, peas, and turkey.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, concerns. Thanks!
