What educators are saying

These activities were engaging. My students enjoyed these and I am happy that I purchased this resource.
This has been a wonderful resource for my entire class. The reading is easy enough that all of my students can read it on their own and use it to form their responses. I LOVE that they need to use the text to form their responses. I only wish there were more resources like this one!

Description

This is set of resources was designed to support the instruction of opinion writing for first and second graders. This unit teaches students to support their opinions with details (or facts) from a text. It includes differentiated passages to support the various reading levels of your students.

In this packet you will find:

-Fact/Opinion posters to use as anchor charts. Including:

  • What is a fact?
  • What is an opinion?
  • What does persuade mean?
  • What are the steps of text based opinion writing?

-Fact or Opinion Student Sorting Activity

This 24 card fact/opinion sort can be put in a pocket chart or a student center.

-Opinion writing prompts with differentiated texts to support opinions.

Students will read 2 short passages and form an opinion. When the student writes about their opinion they use details fro the text to support their opinion and persuade their reader. Each of these 10 prompts includes 4 versions of the texts. The texts have been written on 4 levels of reading and vocabulary complexity. The differentiation is done for you!
