What educators are saying

Loved this resource. I am teaching a new class next year to help students track and monitor their progress with our core classes. I love how this is set up and am looking forward to see how students keep track of all their work next year.

Description

Do you have students who struggle with finding their assignments, turning in their homework, completing long-term projects, or are generally unorganized? Are you frustrated with students who cram all of their assignments into their backpack at the end of the class period and take ten minutes to find their homework in their folders? Do you find that most of your students don't know how to use a planner? Do you just want to know ways to be more proactive and help students learn how to be organized before it becomes an issue for them? This resource was designed for you!

As educators, it is our responsibility to give students tools to help them become successful, not just in the classroom, but into their future. Organizational skills will help them in your classroom, in other classrooms, and in their future jobs and home lives. And unfortunately, organizational skills usually do not come naturally--they have to be taught. This is a resource to help you do just that--teach students how to be more organized.

So many of the teacher resources out there involve how to get yourself organized, but there aren’t nearly enough that are for helping students to become more organized! This resource is meant to be a tool to help you to help your students!

In this resource, you will find:

--Tips for how to model organizational skills in the classroom and how to explicitly teach students organizational skills.

--A form for student-parent-teacher meetings centered on organizational issues.

--A form for student-teacher meetings centered on organizational issues.

--A worksheet for creating a plan as a follow-up to the meeting on organizational issues your student is having.

--A worksheet for teaching students how to create a plan (general).

--A worksheet for teaching students how to break large tasks into more manageable pieces.

--A basic weekly planner for students who need extra organizational help.

--A more in-depth weekly planner for students who need extra organizational help.

--A resource to help students to look back at a plan they have made and reevaluate their goals and progress toward their plans.

--Tips for how to use all of the above forms and worksheets!

--A copy of my book, “10 Quick Tips for Organizing Your Classroom,” to help you get started with modeling an organized space for your students.

Being pro-active about organization is the best way to combat organizational problems within the classroom, and there are plenty of tips included for how to teach students organizational skills. However, some students still struggle, so there are also ways to help you to help them to be successful!
