Description

This is an article that discusses grasp development in young children, and joint laxity and its influence on the development of grasp. Ever notice how young children increasingly have a tendency to hold a pencil incorrectly? This article is the basis for all the fine motor products sold in the store under Jan McCleskey, MA, OTR. The fine motor products that are for sale, include tongs labs, scissors labs and coloring labs. All tongs, coloring labs, etc are adapted with the therapeutic procedure described in this article. A video of how to do therapeutic adaptations, is available from www.TheHandwritingClinic.com. The theoretical basis of getting fine motor labs into early childhood and kindergarten classes is described in this article. This article discusses the development of grasp patterns, atypical versus typical development, and how to promote correct grasp on a pencil. If you use any of Jan's products - this article is the research and theory behind the products! This article would be a great training document for staff! Find therapeutic interventions such as tongs labs, punch labs, outline coloring labs, scissors skills, coloring labs - all with therapeutic adaptations, and all for the classroom or therapy clinic by following Jan McCleskey on Teachers Pay Teachers! Many fine motor products use core curriculum themes, to blend therapeutic intervention into the classroom objectives!
