Description

This 10-slide, research-based professional development presentation is entitled "Incorporating Linguistic Analysis Into Teaching English Learners." Originally intended for use as a PD or PLC presentation with a focus on ELL, it can also serve as a great resource for teachers' personal study, appropriate for general education teachers looking for ways to work with English Learners in their classrooms or ESL teachers seeking additional resources.

  • To recognize the importance of explicit knowledge of both the English language and English Learners’ home languages when working with English Learners
  • To understand the concept of “language transfer” and how it impacts English Learners’ language development
  • To apply the information from this presentation to practical planning of English Learner supports in the classroom
