Description

About the poem, "Teachers, are you ok?":

This original poem was created and shared on Instagram (by @taylormade_teaching_au) to raise awareness about the importance of prioritising teachers' mental health and wellbeing in schools, nationally and around the world. Though this poem does not adequately describe the entire range of personal struggles that teachers face each day, it is hoped that this poem will encourage teachers to reflect, refocus and remember to regularly check in with themselves and their colleagues ♡. Sometimes all it takes is one question to start a conversation that helps someone find the courage to seek the support they need. By having these conversations at individual and school levels, you are helping yourself and your colleagues, positively impacting the teaching community and advocating for mental health support, which ultimately reduces the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health conditions in the work place.

Where you can find the original post:

The poem was also featured on the Teach Starter Facebook page, where it was reposted by 1500+ teachers on Facebook! :O as well as being shared and reposted throughout schools and teaching networks via email and other social media networking services, such as Twitter.

What to do with the poem:

The poem can be used to raise awareness about prioritising teacher wellbeing and mental health - here are some ideas:

  • Display the poem on your staffroom noticeboard
  • Stick the poem on your office door
  • Glue the poem to the inside cover of your teacher planner as a reminder to reflect, refocus and regularly check in with yourself and your colleagues during the school year
  • Share copies of the poem during staff meetings and have professional discussions about the topics/themes of the poem
  • Attach the poem to your staff emails
  • Subtly add a copy of the poem to your students' reports so parents can also gain a bit of insight... (actually, maybe don't do that last one! - just a bit of teacher humour!)

What is included in the download:

  • 1 PDF file with 3 A4 printable posters of the poem, 'Teachers, are you ok?', in 3 different designs (full colour, low colour and black and white)
