I know what you’re thinking… wellness is just one more thing placed on our plate as educators. It’s our responsibility to create lessons, complete paperwork, provide physical and emotional care for our students, instruct on content, manage assessments, mediate disagreements, chair school committees, care for our loved ones, manage our homes, and now we’re expected to care for ourselves for the sole purpose of being our best for our jobs. Society demands more time and energy from us while wondering why we don’t create more time and energy for ourselves. There are so many problems within the education system today as a whole that contribute to teacher stress. Those are our stressors, and they need to be dealt with. But just for now, let’s set our stressors aside. This isn’t about the things that cause our stress. This isn’t about any of them. For once, this is about you.

I know so many teachers today that feel as though they have nothing left to give. Structural changes need to happen within our profession in order to address our stressors. We know that we must be the catalyst for our own change because we are the experts with our boots on the pavement each and every day. But first, we as individuals need to address the stress being held within our own bodies. Only then can we feel truly empowered to create change.

In this week, we will discuss the difference between stress and stressors; seven ways of completing the stress cycle; how each of us can confidently address stressors in our own personalized way; yoga basics; and SEL strategies for yourself and yes, your students.

I am so excited to start this journey with you to see all of the ways we can change education for the better together. I’ll see you on the mat.
