Tchaikovsky Lesson Plan on Ballets with Dance Project for Elementary Music

Description
A 19 slide presentation taking students on a journey through the history of Peter Tchaikovsky, his ballets, trying ballet, newer ballet styles, Aaron Copland, famous ballet dancers, ending with a choreography project to "The March" from The Nutcracker. Students will learn about the creation of ballet, about some of the most famous ballets written, as well as some newer styles of ballet including hiplet. Students will learn about 4 famous ballet dancers, 2 composers of ballet, they'll learn about famous athletes who used ballet to help their athleticism, and students will get to practice some ballet moves. Ballet terms are also included to help your students define what they're practicing. Links to videos on youtube are included. Students will end with a small group project that will have them use what they've learned to create a short dance to one section from "March" from The Nutcracker.
This unit can be done by anyone as I have no ballet experience myself!
