The Water Princess by Susan Verde is a great picture book story that focuses on the water shortage crisis specifically in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Beautifully illustrated, it follows young Gie Gie who has to walk every day to get water by waking up early and walking to the nearest water source. This book is a great way to connect multiples subjects (ELA, Social Studies, and Science) and make real world connections to the students' lives and the world. This book is based on the childhood experience of model Georgie Badiel.

The product I created gives students a virtual field trip experience! It highlights the book and makes a connection to the importance of access to clean water. Don't have the physical book? Don't worry, the PowerPoint embeds a read aloud of the book.

This is great for any type of learning environment (in-person, all digital, or hybrid). With the Google Slides version, a copy of the virtual field trip can be made for each student.
