This assignment is based on S.E. Hinton's novel "The Outsiders". The assignment involves writing a news story based on the church fire in chapter 6. Instructions are given regarding the content of the news story. The assignment includes a preliminary exercise where students create 5WH notes. An answer key is provided. The assignment also includes an instructional section on using present tense active voice. A model sample news story is provided to be used according to teacher discretion. The assignment includes a rubric as well as a template for the students to do their assignment. Also included is a fun 18 slide Jeopardy style Outsider's Easel quiz on the novel and the movie.
