Description
Which regret stands out? Which decision would you like to Undo? Which life would you like to try on? ~Matt Haig
Greetings,
Is this the novel and resource for you and your students? Let me ask several questions to help you arrive at an answer. Everyone has regrets. Agreed? Everyone would like an Undo on some life choice. Agreed? Everyone has at least one, ‘What would have happened if I had taken the other fork in the road moment.’ Agreed?
Nora Seed, the protagonist, in Matt Haig’s, The Midnight Library, would agree with all three statements, and she is given a unique opportunity to get some answers. Expecting to be dead, she finds herself ‘in-between’ life and death in a strange library at midnight. Here, she gets to live various possibilities for her life, and she comes face-to-face with the question we all must answer – What is the best way to live?
Yes, it’s fiction. And the library is only a figment of the author’s imagination. But, we have a rare chance to accompany Nora and learn through her our answer to the best way to live. No small thing, however difficult.
So, set aside any regrets and give Mrs. Elm, the librarian, your undivided attention. And, in so doing, imagine and become more fully and truly alive. Quite a possibility. Quite a learning outcome. Agreed?
