Achieve positive results in creating analytical thinkers by nurturing your students’ abilities and giving them the necessary tools to develop critical reasoning skills. This can be achieved through close textual analysis of various non-fiction texts.

⚫ HOLOCAUST CRITICAL THINKING PROJECT PRIMO LEVI AN ANALYTICAL APPROACH
INTERACTIVE OR PRINT
This product focuses on the second chapter of Levi’s book called “The Gray Zone.” It is self-contained with a link to the chapter!!! No prep!!
I have taught The Drowned and The Saved several times over the past nine years, and I have found the book is one of the most thoughtful and harrowing I have ever read on the Holocaust. Not only does Levi offer a unique perspective as a survivor, he also is loath to pass judgment on his persecutors. The book offers anecdotal evidence from his time at Auschwitz but much more. His comments on the human condition are profound.
I have taught the entire book, but I also ask the bookstore to create a reading package for my students – it often includes several readings on the Holocaust. The cost is minimal to your students and the best option if you do not want to teach the entire book.
This assignment may be done online or during class time. It may be done alone or in groups. I have my students do this assignment in groups of 3 or 4 and have found this works well. They begin the assignment during class but complete it over a weekend and submit the answers before the next class. Before they begin this assignment, I do a review of Levi and the Holocaust.
