TERRY FOX 2 Reading Passages, 9 activities: Gr 4-6 PRINT and EASEL

“Terry Fox: A Canadian Hero” includes 2 reading passages and nine activities will work well in an English Language Arts class as well as Social Studies. Please check the preview to ensure the activities and reading level works for your class!

This resource has been updated to include digital and print access using the new interactive digital layer tool. I have created my own version, available to buyers, but buyers can create their own version too, reflecting the needs of their students.

Included in this resource are:

2-one page reading texts of over 500 words detailing Terry’s life and his legacy.

Two activities designed for each of the texts and a third activity that requires both texts be read.

Activities 1 and 2 – “Memory Challenge”: putting details back in order and supplying missing words or phrases in Part 1; Synonym Search - students replace words and phrases from Part 1 with their own;

Activities 3 and 4 – “IMHO” – students are asked to express their opinions on details in Part 2; students compare how Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope might be handled by today's media to how it was covered in 1980;

Activity 5 (for both texts) – “Fast Facts” – students choose what they believe are the most important facts in both texts and explain why;

Other activities:

A creative writing assignment in which students write a diary entry that Terry might have written;

“Remembering Terry” – students design their own interview questions and then interview and record the answers of someone who remembers Terry’s Marathon of Hope;

"Terry Fox in Words" - students brainstorm for adjectives that begin with the first letters of Terry's name and write sentences about him using those adjectives; and

“Into the Wind: Terry’s Story” – 3 pp of questions based on an online video about Terry Fox’s life.
