Description

Here's a hands-on, creative way to practice synonyms! Your students won't forget what a synonym is after creating "synonym rolls"! It also makes a creative bulletin board or school hallway display! It can be used as a novel entry in an interactive notebook, as well!

PRINTABLE CRAFTIVITY VERSION: First, students complete a worksheet where they read a phrase and circle the synonym for the underlined word. After their worksheet has been checked, they write their circled synonyms on their frosting pieces. They cut out their rolls and frosting, match them up and glue the frosting to the roll so that it creates a flap. Finally, they assemble the rolls on their "plate" and add a title. (The document includes student-friendly directions with picture supports!)

This file contains two versions to allow for differentiation. An easier version is for lower grade levels or older students who would benefit from a worksheet with lower readability. A more challenging version is available for upper elementary grade levels.

TPT DIGITAL EASEL VERSION: This is a paperless version that can be completed on a device. Each slide contains a cinnamon roll image with a short phrase written on it. Four icing options are beside it. One "sheet" of icing displays a synonym for the underlined word on the roll. Students must select the correct icing image and drag it to the top of the roll. This activity contains 24 slides! You can easily delete slides that might be above your students' level. This is a great test prep activity because it is basically a multiple-choice activity presented in an engaging format!

⭐️ Chelsea M. said, "My class loved this activity! It's amazing how something so simple and cute was the key to getting synonyms to "stick". Now they all remember the word every time I bring it up."

⭐️ Karina R. said, "SUPER engaging! My students LOVE "baking" their synonym rolls. My students continue to refer to this activity months we did it."

⭐️ ITeachMiami said, "This was a great wrap-up for synonyms. This craftivity allowed my little ones to continue practice their fine motor skills while still applying their synonym knowledge."

⭐️ Tami T. said, "I needed an activity that would wrap up our synonym unit that we have been working on for the past week, something the kids would remember. I found this, copied it, presented it to students and they LOVED it! I loved having words already chosen but having "frosting" open-ended so students could pick their own synonyms. The creativity on this activity really stands out!"
