What educators are saying

This resource was very useful in providing a visual aid for syllabication rules, and helped my students.
This has everything I needed for instruction with a student I tutor. The instructions were clear and it was engaging, as well.

Description

“Syllable Showdown - Syllabication Overview and Resources” was designed to help you introduce and reinforce syllabication rules in your elementary classroom.

I was first introduced to syllabication when I taught in a small special education school for children with language-based learning disabilities; however, I have found that my knowledge and training with teaching syllables has proved useful throughout my
teaching career across multiple (and very different!) settings.

In this packet, you will find resources that address each of the seven syllable types (Closed, Open, Magic E, R-Controlled, Vowel Digraph, Vowel Diphthong and Consonant -le) as well as strategies for counting syllables and syllable division. There is ample
parent correspondence that you can use to inform your families at each step of your syllable study.

Here's a closer look and be sure to check out the preview file!

1. Overview of Syllabication and Instructions for Use
2. Large syllable type chart with visuals (one and two syllable words are featured on separate pages for your convenience) - Directions for assembly are included!
3. Breve and Macron chart
4. Family newsletters and information (overview and one newsletters for each syllable type)
5. One page syllable type chart with examples
6. Syllable chart - What is a syllable?
7. Four strategies for counting strategies with student-friendly visuals
8. Dividing Syllable Rules (Posters + Student flip book)

***This overview pack DOES NOT include worksheets, practice printables, homework, games, center work or student work resources - See below for my packs designed for student work!***
