Description

Greetings! So, here is a complete college syllabus that aligns with Susan Anker's, “Real Essays with Readings: Writing for Success in College, Work, and Everyday Life.” (Fourth edition.) If you teach from a later edition, let me assure you, I taught this course for seven years and the editions barely changed from year 1 to year 7. Although the page numbers might be different here or there on your end, this will save you tons of time, and you can totally just swap out the chapters as needed and keep the assignment deadlines as is. The specific essays have not been included here, but feel free to create the writing assignments according to your own college or university guidelines. I've highlighted in bright yellow areas of the syllabus (i.e. absence policy) you may want to adjust to suit your own preferences. This course is a remedial college English course, around grade level 10 or 11, taught at a large community college. It is writing and reading heavy, focused on the five paragraph essay format, no less -- and requires a nice mixture of both shorter and longer writing assignments over a course of around 4 months. Also some opportunities for student presentations throughout the semester.

Includes: attendance policy, course objectives, full course outline, essay rubric, grading breakdown, plagiarism explanation, course intro, and general syllabus information with very standard language for all college courses nationwide.

Please note the tone of this syllabus is a bit dry, formal, and intimidating. If you're looking to establish a serious tone with your students early on, this is the syllabus for you.

Also, if you don't use the Anker book at all, you can totally still use this template for any standard English course syllabus. Just swap out the readings.

Enjoy!
