Surrealism Drawing Art Lesson Inspired by Salvador Dali - Middle/High School Art

This Surrealism drawing art lesson will keep your middle school or high school art students engaged! My students absolutely LOVED learning about Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte and creating their own surrealist work of art. Students will learn some fun facts and be engaged in critiquing the artwork created by artist Rene Magritte and Salvador Dali, while creating a surrealist artwork with the medium of their choice and the theme of metamorphosis. The PowerPoint slides and/or PDF slides include art vocabulary (juxtaposition, scale, levitation, dislocation, transformation, surrealism as well as review of the Principles of Design), lesson objectives, standards, day by day directions, a critique and review of the principles of design and application to lesson, student examples, 2 videos to help student get started creating surrealist art, a Disney short, reflection questions, rubric and an optional formal or informal assessment. This package will yield a variety of ideas and mediums used to create surrealist art, as well as keep your students excited for class each day. Perfect way to celebrate Hispanic artist Salvador Dali for Hispanic Heritage month.
