What educators are saying

This was a great way to make sure the students understood the concepts of surface area as a review. This was used as an extra activity in class for those that had already finished their work for that period. Excellent
This was a great extension activity for fast finishers in my Math Lab classes. The Distance Learning aspect made it ideal for a classroom where students are all working on different activities as I did not have to make copies last minute and had a new activity ready to go for those who needed it.

Description

An engaging math escape room for calculating the surface area of prisms and cylinders. Students are also asked to calculate volume, perimeter, circumference and area of the shapes as a review. Questions are grouped 4 per puzzle, resulting in five 4-letter codes that will unlock all 5 locks.

Questions include:

  • calculate total surface area of a right triangular prism, rectangular prism and cylinder.
  • calculate a cylinder's base area or circumference.
  • calculate a prism's base area, face area or face perimeter.
  • calculate volume of a right triangular prism, rectangular prism and cylinder.

The entire activity is housed in one GOOGLE Form. There are no links to outside websites. The 4-letter codes are set with answer validation so that students cannot move to the next puzzle until they enter the correct code. Includes answer key.

To add the digital escape room to your Google Drive: please open the PDF and click the button on page 3.

A printable PDF version has also been added to the file. Students can work in groups, each group starting at a different puzzle. Once done, students check the NEXT STEP box for which puzzle to visit next.
