What educators are saying

I used these Reader's Theater scripts for an end of year performance. My students LOVE these. Even my struggling readers are engaged and enjoy reading them with their classmates! I noticed a difference in their confidence and expression. Thank you!
My students had so much fun doing these as we approached summer. They were engaged and had fun being creative!

Description

Summer Readers' Theater Scripts and End-of-Year Activities for grades 3, 4, 5 & 6: 8-poem collection of fast and funny summertime poetry and literacy activities to launch 3rd-grade, 4th-grade, 5th-grade & 6th-grade students into summer vacation with fun, summer-themed readers' theater scripts, comprehension questions, writing prompts, and vocabulary word work.

The 8 poems are provided as regularly formatted poems plus as 1- to 2-page stand-alone readers' theater scripts. Each poem also includes other reading and writing activities. Here are the 8 poems, along with the number of readers per script:

* "School's Almost Out" (3 readers)

* "Stuff I Learned This Year" (2 readers)

* "The Sea Witch" (4 readers)

* "The First Day of Summer Vacation" (3 readers)

* "The Lemonade Stand" (3 readers)

* "A Checklist for Summer Vacation" (4 readers)

* "Soggy Sandals" (2 readers)

* "Asking for Three Dollars" (3 readers)

This product includes a TPT Easel Activity, which can be used digitally for literacy centers or as a distance learning packet. It includes the 8 poems, corresponding comprehension questions and writing prompts, and a vocabulary activity. If needed, the digital activity can also be modified by adding/deleting pages, altering instructions, etc.

In addition to the regularly formatted poems and stand-alone readers' theater scripts, the Silly-poem Compilations then provide three additional scripts—each comprised of 2–3 of the poems from the collection woven into a single script, making it so a group of students has a longer script to practice and perform.

The poems include lists of “Watch-out Words!” This feature highlights challenging words for which students may need help as they practice. These words also make terrific candidates for classroom vocabulary instruction.

If you choose to do script-based vocabulary instruction, there are vocabulary pages for the three silly-poem compilations. Each vocabulary page uses four of the “Watch-out Words!” from the corresponding silly-poem compilation. A Word Work: Sample Answer Key provides a basic, kid-friendly explanation of each word’s meaning, which can be used when actively teaching students the words.

For a classroom reading block, readers’ theater can be used as a student-monitored station during small-group instructional time, and the Weekly Practice Checklist provides a framework for students’ day-by-day practice.

Additional materials include a basic overview of readers' theater, numerous tips and tricks for successful implementation, and a listing of some of the applicable Common Core State Standards for grades 3-6.

SCHOOL'S ALMOST OUT: A SUMMERTIME SILLY POEMS COLLECTION is ready to provide a fast, funny, and favorite source of fluency practice!
