What educators are saying

Soooooo cute! The sugar cube stacking is fun!! The students didn’t even realize they were learning to read nutrition facts labels.

Description

Do your health class, science, or PE students love to guzzle sugary sweet beverages and snack on junk food? Show them EXACTLY how much sugar they are ingesting when they eat those Fruit Loops and cookies or drink that Gatorade and soda in this interactive, zero-prep, customizable Sweet Science Sugar Lab.

Your students will get hands-on experience converting grams of sugar from common foods and drinks into stackable sugar cubes. Students will have a FUN and eye-opening learning experience with this Google Slides drag & drop activity.

This Sweet Science Sugar Lab activity includes a total of 38 Google Slides:

  1. What is sugar? mini-lesson
  2. 10 interactive beverage slides
  3. 10 interactive food item slides
  4. 1 BLANK slide template so you have the ability to add/delete and customize slides

Each slide provides an opportunity to do the math (4 grams of sugar = 1 sugar cube) add the cubes and create a stackable pile for a visual representation of how much sugar is in that food or beverage.

By providing students with the tools and knowledge to understand that some beverages and food items contain excessive amounts of sugar (that can be harmful to the human body), you can empower students to make informed decisions and develop positive habits that support life-long health and happiness.
