Description

This substitute assignment by HLL for on-level and AP® Psychology contains 20 questions plus 3 activities to accompany an original article on optimism (included). The article, first 15 questions, and writing activity could be used in on-level and AP® Psychology classes, while the remaining questions and activities are more appropriate for AP® classes. This sub lesson can be customized to cover from 45 to 90 minutes of class time.

An original article discusses the neurological basis for optimism. It describes current research and discusses the areas of the brain that are responsible for optimism. It investigates how different psychological perspectives view optimism. It also explains the evolutionary need for optimism, and how it sets us apart from other animals.

The questions cover the following AP® topics:

- Types of psychiatrists/psychologists and what they study

- Brain anatomy

- Experiments and correlations

- Independent and dependent variables

- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

- Biases

This substitute assignment is appropriate any time after the biological basis of behavior and research units are covered. While it addresses other subjects, a deep understanding of later units is not necessary to understand the article, and it could offer an introduction to these later topics.

A detailed answer key and lesson plan with time guide is included!
