Description

Each 8.5 x 11 page lists a stage of the learning process and can be used to help students verbalize where they are. The stages are based on the class theme I used last year of "Blooming Where I'm Planted" where scholars were expected to focus on their growth based on who they were and avoiding comparisons to others.
The four stages are seed, sprout, seedling, and full bloom. Each sheet includes the name of the stage, a picture, a description of the stage written in first person and a simplified version of the description to help scholars fully understand the stage.

I printed these on colored paper, laminated them and hung them from my board using magnets. At the end of lessons, I would have scholars complete an exit slip and have them write what stage they felt they were at in the learning process on the back of the slip. I would also ask what they felt they needed in order to progress to the next stage of learning. This really helped them monitor their learning and allowed them to choose partners for various activities based on where they were along the "blooming" continuum.

(FYI--This was used in a mixed ability fourth grade class that included six special education students, five talented and gifted students, five students in the Early Intervention Program, and six on-level learners but it can be adapted for most grades.)
