    Description

How does a real-world, in-the-thick-of-it entrepreneurship experience sound for your high school students?

Rather than teach kids the principles of business out of a book, what if they experienced it firsthand?

    The Why:

This bundle includes two project-based learning experiences that when combined give students real-world, immersive experiences shadowing and learning from real community business owners, plus developing and launching their OWN businesses.

Each of these experiences is also a super valuable resume builder.

The experiences integrate subjects, promote lifelong learning, build essential 21st-century skills, and prepare students for life beyond classroom walls.

    How to Use this Resource:

    • Community Business Immersion PBL: Start with the Hometown Behind the Scenes project-based learning resource. Students will partner with one single business and shadow the business owner to learn how businesses are developed and run.
    • Start Your Own Businesses PBL: Then students will use what they've learned about entrepreneurship from the first experience and apply that knowledge and understanding to the experience of developing and starting their own real businesses (using the second resource included in this bundle).

    * Each of the resources in this bundle includes a digital and printable version.

    Community Business Immersion Resource Includes:

    • Teacher and student guides
    • Discussion questions to introduce the PBL
    • Topic brainstorming activity options
    • Project-based learning checklist
    • Project planner
    • Research guide
    • "Challenge Yourself" extension options
    • PBL rubric
    • Reflection guide

High School Entrepreneurship - Start a Business Includes:

    • Teacher guide - The teacher guide includes a project description and an implementation guide.
    • Create your own business project description and business portfolio checklist
    • High school businesses brainstorming tools
    • Guiding materials for market research
    • Business proposal template
    • Business operations spreadsheet template - This template includes a variety of spreadsheets related to business operations including business budget.
    • Business plan checklist
    • Business plan outline templates
    • Guiding materials for building business websites
    • Business plan rubric
    • Business portfolio (overall project) rubric

BONUS: Editable Google Slides Learning Reflection Template

Timeframe: The amount of time these experiences will take depends on how much independence your students have, whether they will work on it beyond school hours, how much time you have with your students, and so on. With that said, a good rule of thumb is 8 weeks. That's if your students get at least an hour per day to work on these projects.
