Story of the U.S. Constitution - Readers' Theater Script for Constitution Day

September 17 is Constitution Day. Principals and administrators love that this readers' theater script for fifth grade and above can help fulfill your requirement to hold an educational program about the U.S. Constitution and engage students in reading at the same time. Readers theater motivates and engages readers. Used for fluency instruction, it is a proven research-based reading strategy (best practices) that provides a context for authentic reading and re-reading.

The script has 19 speaking parts with a F.K. reading level of 8.3. This was created by request as a play suitable for parents. Makes a great Constitution Day activity!

With this original readers' theater script created by My Reading Resources, students will be able to step into the shoes of the Framers of our United States Constitution.

Due to "big words" and the more formal language of the time, the reading level is high, but with scaffolding, students at fifth grade and above can manage the reading. It is long, but could easily be edited for length by cutting some of the speaking parts or omitting some pages.
