Steinbeck Of Mice and Men Vocabulary Test Activity Word Search Crossword Bundle

This would be something you would do in addition to reading Of Mice and Men and doing other writing assignments, content quizzes, etc. So I put 2 weeks as the teaching duration because that's the least amount of time any teacher (IMHO) should take on this novella. You wouldn't do all these activities back to back; it wouldn't make sense to. If you want to see thumbnails, feel free to poke around with some of the individual items in the bundle.

Bundle Includes:

1) 3 dictation/matching spelling/definition tests (1 for Chapters 1-2, 1 for Chapters 3-4, & 1 for Chapters 5-6). These are designed to be reprinted for ease of creating retakes. The teacher gets students to write the words down as quickly as possible and then students match the words they've written with the correct definitions. The tests assess spelling and definitions and point values can be tweaked to your liking.

2) There's a list of the 20 unique words for each of those sections and there's also a separate PDF of the 60 total words (not included in the page count for this bundle). The lists are each a page, but have the words twice so they can be printed and chopped in half to save paper.

3) 6 total word searches. There are 2 word searches per vocab section. The "first" one has that section's words listed at the bottom and students find those words. My theory is that this helps them learn the word spellings. The "second" one is designed for closer to the vocab test; it has the definitions at the bottom and the hope is that students are familiar enough with the words that they look at a definition and know what word that means they're to locate in the word search.

4) 6 total crossword puzzles. There are 2 crossword puzzles per vocab section. The "first" one has a word bank and the "second" one doesn't.

5) A timed write essay assignment asking students to consider how racial and intellectual prejudice play out in Of Mice and Men. Of course the timed aspect of it could be disregarded if you so desired.
