Description
Common Core Standards: 8.EE6, 8.F3, 8.F4
This activity is a fun art/math crossover project. Students will practice graphing lines in slope-intercept form. The equations include lines with positive, negative, zero, and undefined slope. The final product will resemble a stained-glass window that can be colored and displayed for a beautiful classroom decoration. Students really enjoy this project - it's a nice change of pace!
Differentiation:
The activity includes a set of equations and a set of ordered pairs to be graphed. You might choose to leave the ordered pairs off for students to focus on just graphing lines.
A "create-your-own" design sheet is provided. Advanced students or students with an extra artistic flair might enjoy designing their own window.
Included:
*Instructions and Standards Correlation Sheet
*Stained Glass Blueprints
*Create Your Own Stained Glass Instructions
*Blank Graph
*Examples of Student Products
Note:
There are several stained glass projects floating around the Internet. This activity was inspired by these others, but this particular design was entirely created by me and used in the classroom for several years.
