Description

This is a HUGE 163- page mega-bundle containing a comprehensive unit of work on the Stage Two History/HASS strand "First Contacts". This unit of work focuses on the effects of British colonisation on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples of Australia.

The unit requires students to complete a collaborative project, based on the principles of project-based learning, whereby they are given a problem to solve and they are expected to work cooperatively in groups to solve the problem. Students will research the question "What were the effects of British Colonisation on The Indigenous Peoples of Australia?" and give a presentation answering this question.

The structure of the learning sequence is: a three-week "block" of explicit learning to provide background knowledge before the project is launched. Following this students have optional workshops on specific content (teacher may choose to have all students participate in the workshops), then independent work time.

The topics explored in the lessons are:

* What did life look like for Indigenous People before 1788

* Friendly Contacts (trade with the Macassan people of Indonesia)

* Unfriendly Contacts (first interactions with the people of the First Fleet)

* Indigenous Resistance (focusing specifically on the lives of Bennelong and Pemulwuy)

* Loss of land and the impact on the Aboriginal connection to Country/Place

* Diseases which affected Indigenous people upon settlement

All resources and printables needed to teach and assess this ten-week unit are included. No prep is needed at all.

Included in the bundle:

* A background to the unit and inquiry questions

* All Australian outcomes - both ACARA and NESA

* Six explicit lessons (on the above topics) PLUS detailed stand-alone PowerPoint lessons focusing deeply on the lived of Bennelong and Pemulwuy

* Discussion Prompts

* Consolidation Tasks

* Artworks and Illustrations linked to content

* A detailed, 20-page lesson plan guide with step-by-step instructions and teacher notes for effective delivery of the unit

* All printables

* A separate slideshow - "Tips for Giving and Effective Presentation" which is not linked to content and can be used for any oral presentation for both Stages Two and Three

* A cooperative group organisation tool, designed to help students form effective groups based on the skills and strengths of individual students (rather than forming friendship groups). Again, this stands alone and can be used to form groups for any task

* Two rubrics for assessment - one based on the project and its content, the other based on Stage Two speaking and listening skills (the latter is not content specific and can be used for any speech or presentation).

There are many associated literature-based resources in my store, as well as many other Stage Two and Three HASS units so feel free to check them out.

All of my resources are 20% off for the first 48 hours so be sure to hit the green "follow me" star to be alerted when they drop.
