What educators are saying
Description
Search for a leprechaun during your speech therapy sessions with this St. Patrick's Day interactive book for preschool that features farm animals and animal sounds, and targets a variety of different language goals!
Interactive books are engaging for nearly all little learners, and especially helpful in working with children who are visual and/or tactile learners, and children who have limited verbal output. The moveable pieces allow for participation regardless of verbal output skills, and also give your students something to manipulate. Having something to manipulate can help maintain engagement, while also serving as a visual cue as to how many trials are left until completion!
This easy to assemble book targets SO MANY language goals, making it great for group instruction!
You can use it to target:
► Simple Inferences (Guess the animal based on the clues)
► Labeling animal vocabulary
► “Who” questions (“Who did they find?”)
►“What” questions (“What was the horse eating?” “What’s on the pig’s head?” “What do chickens lay?” etc…)
► Matching (icon to picture)
► Core vocabulary “turn” (turn the page) “on” (put the icon on) and “not” (“That’s not what leprechauns say”)
► Imitating animal sounds (great for those transitioning to first words, or those with significant speech difficulties— modify to CV or CVCV syllable shapes as needed (“kee kee” for “squeak squeak” “neigh” “moo” “baa baa” )
► Yes/No questions (“Is this a leprechaun?” “Is this a (name an animal)?”)
FORMAT:
•Every other page has a rhyme, giving your students clues about who the kids in the story found.
•Below the rhyme is a visual cue of clue(s) given
•At the bottom of the rhyme/clue page, are two visual choices to help your students guess which animal the children in the book found.
•After making a guess, turn the page, and find out if you guessed correctly! On this page is a large picture of the correct animal. Below this picture is a box where your students match the smaller icon to the larger picture on the page.
•Below the placeholder for the icon placement, is a question: "Is this a leprechaun?" with visuals next to it for "yes" and "no," for your students who are learning how to answer these questions and still need visuals. You can also use these visuals to ask yes/no questions about the animals.. "Is this a pig?" "Is it a horse?" etc...
