Description

A unique and engaging St. Patrick's Day STEM activity! Get ready for a STEM adventure with Larry the leprechaun. Students will decide which challenges Larry should try to earn gold coins on his favorite day of the year. Based on their choices, they will encounter different STEM challenges.

Materials Needed: In addition to "gold coins" (party favor coins work well but you can also use pennies or play money), you can use any materials you have, but I recommend index cards, tape, string, paper and rubber bands. Optional but nice-to have materials are pipe cleaners, building bricks, and various recyclables.

What You'll Get

  • Instructions and sample images
  • 12-page story book to guide your students through the engineering design process. The STEMventure storybook will have students complete three STEM challenges. One follow up challenge is also provided.
  • Possible STEM Challenges include: rainbow, slide, unplugged coding activity (2 options), musical instrument, and bank. The follow-up challenges include a coin launcher as well as a coin flipping device challenge.
  • Printable characters
  • Gold coin distribution guide (students can earn more for creating more complex designs)
  • Rubric
  • Certificate of completion
  • Cards for optional stations

Host a Family STEM Night!

Because these activities can be set up as stations, this pack makes a great family STEM night activity. Simply set up each possible station for the story and families can read and choose their path/which challenges to complete.
