Description

To complete the mystery of Larry Leprechaun’s missing pot of gold your students will work in small groups, use their detective notes, and solve language tasks to discover the culprit. You might want to surprise your students with a pot of gold treat after solving the mystery. A snack idea is included!

Help! Larry Leprechaun wants to have a Saint Patrick’s Day party for all of his friends, but someone stole his pot of gold! Without it he can’t buy party supplies. Will you find out who has his gold?

Clue #1 (secret message) – Someone left a secret message. Use the key to crack the code! Whoever’s name is in the message did NOT steal the pot of gold!

Clue #2 (homonyms) – Some words have multiple meanings. First, use the picture cards to make a homonym match. Record the words in your detective notes. Whoever has all four words listed is NOT the gold thief!

Clue #3 (phonics patterns) – The letters in each word are scrambled up! Use the hints to unscramble the letters. List each word in your detective notes. Whoever has all the correct words did NOT take the gold!

Clue #4 (main idea and key details) – Key details support a main idea. Read the details and find the main idea that all of the details support. Whoever has the correct main idea is NOT the culprit!

Clue #5 (digraphs and trigraphs) – Each of the words has a digraph or trigraph! Sort the cards to the correct suspect. Whoever has the most cards did NOT take Larry Leprechaun’s pot of gold!
