St. Patrick's Day - Cross Cultural - Carnival x St. Patrick's - ESL - digital

This is a great activity to engage your ESL students into St. Patrick's day meaningfully. I chose a Brazilian celebration (Carnival) to show the differences and similarities. You can adapt the flipchart and make the same for Mardi Gras, for example. This is the perfect cross cultural activity, to embrace two cultures that happen in different places but have some things in common.

The focus is to bring the Irish culture to your students, without focusing on crafts. You can make a craft at the end, to celebrate the date, but bring some history, some fun facts, some of what the date represents nowadays for the Irish. It also includes a video showing the celebration in Ireland and all around the world.

The file is the flipchart from the ActivInspire. It's free to download and more interactive than powerpoint. You can use it online, use digital/interactive board or use it in class with a projector (just as you do with powerpoint).
