What educators are saying

My students find these squiggle activities extremely engaging. They write more than ever in response to their stories as well.
This is a fun and engaging way to do creative writing with students. My students love creating their own squiggles, then I copy them and their classmates get to create various pictures out of their squiggle!

Description

Squiggle Stories is a fun creative writing assignment. Students will use a squiggle to create an illustration, and then write a story about the illustration.

Squiggle Stories are perfect for writing workshop or at a writing center. Squiggle Journals are an excellent option for Daily 5's Work on Writing. I also include Squiggle Stories in my emergency substitute file. It is a quick, but well-loved writing assignment that can serve as a meaningful assessment for the teacher.
