Description

Spring Readers' Theater Poetry Scripts (3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grades): THE OCTOPUS ON MY HEAD: A SPRINGTIME SILLY POEMS COLLECTION.

This packet of funny readers’ theater poems and activities is great for right before (or after!) spring break. It includes:

*8 springtime poems, each with 2 versions:

  • 2-reader readers' theater script: Perfect for partner-poem reading fluency practice
  • Silly-poem compilation: Combined with 1-2 other poems to create a longer, 4-reader script (number of readers can be easily adjusted)

*Vocabulary: Word Work activity (with answer key)

*Weekly Practice Checklist: 5-day framework to guide students' day-by-day readers' theater fluency practice

The 8 poems by T. P. Jagger are:

* "The Octopus on My Head"

* "Week on the Beach"

* "Spring-cleaning Doom"

* "Spring Things"

* "It's Too Bad That Sam Liked Flowers"

* "Jill McTibble's Garden" (FREEBIE DOWNLOAD!)

* "A Trip with My Umbrella"

* "Collecting Animal Babies"

Additional materials include a basic overview of readers' theater, numerous tips and tricks for successful implementation, and a listing of some of the applicable Common Core State Standards for grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. This PDF product is perfect for literacy centers or as a digital distance learning packet.

The scripts include lists of “Watch-out words!” This feature highlights challenging words for which students may need help as they practice. These words also make terrific candidates for classroom vocabulary instruction.

If you choose to do script-based vocabulary instruction, Word Work vocabulary pages are provided for the three readers' theater silly-poem compilations. Each vocabulary page uses four of the “Watch-out words!” from the corresponding silly-poem compilation. A Word Work: Sample Answer Key provides a basic, kid-friendly explanation of each word’s meaning, which can be used when actively teaching students the words.

For a classroom reading block, readers’ theater can be used as a student-monitored station during small-group instructional time, and a Weekly Practice Checklist provides a framework for students’ day-by-day practice.

THE OCTOPUS ON MY HEAD: A SPRINGTIME SILLY POEMS COLLECTION is ready to provide a fast, funny, and favorite source of readers' theater partner poem fluency practice for your students!
