Description

Are you a teacher of ESL / English / ELL, German, Italian, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, or any other world language? If so, this version of my Spot-the-Match game is for you! This version also works well for younger pre-literate language learners!

Based on the game Spot It, this 31-card game is a fun way to have your students practice their vocabulary for various places around town! This game can be played in any World Language or ESL classroom since the cards are all pictures. I have included a card with the English vocabulary as well as an editable reference sheet (PPT format and PDF) that you can personalize for your specific language or vocabulary needs. Because there are no words on any of the cards, you can customize this set for any language or regional dialect that you choose, making sure it fits all of your vocab needs.

To assemble the game, just print out the cards double-sided, cut and laminate them (or print them on heavier stock paper and skip the laminating), and you are ready to play! This game is a HUGE hit in my classroom and it a great way for student to improve vocabulary recognition, speed, and accuracy!

This game can be played in groups of 2 to 6 students. There are many ways you can play this game (two of which are written on one of the extra game cards):

Version 1: Each player starts with 1 card. The remaining cards are in a draw pile in the center. A player flips over the top card from the draw pile. The first player to correctly find the match between his/her card and the flipped card and to yell it out in the target language, takes the card and places it on top of his/her pile. For the next round, they will use their new card.

Version 2: Players start with no cards and one large pile in the center. Two cards are flipped over from the pile. The first person to pick out the match and say it in the target language gets both cards. Two new cards are flipped over. Once all the cards are gone, the winner is the player with the most cards.

Version 3: Deal out all the cards (except 1) evenly to all players. Players much match the cards in their hand (in any order) to the card on top of the pile and correctly yell out the match in the target language. The first player to get rid of their entire hand wins.
