This fabulous activity gives your children the opportunity to practise their  spellings with fun themed images. it gives your students the chance to practice how to write the most common words.

This spelling staircase activity is a fantastic way to help children consolidate their learning. With a Cards to support learning on all of the phonemes from this phase, there are 24 cards in total plus a background for the back of the cards. Each card features a spelling staircase and a vibrant, full-colour illustration of an object or animal to complement it. Each spelling staircase will start children off with the first letter of a specific word. To complete each staircase spelling words sheet, pupils will then need to fill in the rest of the staircase by spelling the rest of the word going from the top to the bottom. This makes these spelling staircases a fun, unique way for children to practise spelling trickier words!

What’s more, this staircase spelling words resource also comes with a handy answers sheet at the end. This will allow you to give your pupils immediate feedback on their work and help them with any spellings that they’re a bit stuck with.

This is a great way to help reinforce children’s understanding of each phoneme. You could work through them one at a time, taking the necessary time to ensure that children are comfortable with each.

Make sure you take time to speak each phoneme out loud, so children know not only how it looks on paper, but also how it sounds in their mouths. This is a crucial aspect to learning phonemes!
