What educators are saying

My students frequently referred to the anchor charts in this great collection as they worked to learned specific reading skills. It's is a resource I've used repeatedly in my class. I highly recommend it!

Description

Systematic phonics is the best way to teach all learners how to spell and read. These posters offer visual reminders of the rules of English spelling. Once you start teaching your students the rules of the English language, they start applying logic rather than guesswork to their spelling.

This product includes posters in both 8.5" x 11" and in 11" x 17" for your printing convenience. The following spelling rules are covered:

  • QU rule
  • hard and soft /c/
  • hard and soft /g/
  • when vowels can say their names
  • when to use /i/ and when to use /y/
  • when to double consonants
  • 5 jobs of silent E
  • spellings of /er/
  • when to use sh, ti, ci, or si
  • ie vs. ei (with chants for common exceptions)
  • when to use dge
  • when to use ck
  • plus much more!

All 29 Orton-Gillingham spelling rules are covered with information on the rare exceptions. Are any of these rules new or confusing to you? Read the teacher helps at the beginning of this product for clear and easy-to-follow helps. Once you start teaching this way, you start using logic in your own spelling! Your students will pick this up faster than you will!

Designed to be used with Spalding's Writing Road to Reading, Spell to Write and Read, or any other Orton-Gillingham program, but could be used to supplement any reading program by offering evidence-based phonics instruction. These posters can be used with K-5 classrooms, but they work equally well with ELL and students with learning disabilities. Nothing has shown better results for all learners than intensive, systematic phonics!

Help your students read and spell!
