Description

TPR is the methodology basis for this curriculum. Active participation is encouraged in every class; emphasis in building vocabulary with daily opportunity to practice phrasing and basic conversation. This is a monthly outline to organize help organize content to teach spanish. Supporting worksheets are available for purchase in my store separately.

Students will learn to understand, speak, read and write Spanish in an engaging, dynamic environment utilizing all their senses and 'active' participation. Each grade's monthly outline is a guide to organize the content (vocab; season, etc) to teach spanish. Each month leading into cohesive building opportunities to listen to short phrases and vocabulary for pronunciation; the class / individual students are asked to repeat aloud for practice.

Following my monthly guide, I creatively introduce tactile / auditory props, imagery (pictures, dvd, books, flash cards, smart-boards, music, recordings, etc) to support each lesson and engage students consistent with TPR. Each lesson builds upon or incorporates the last. For example, one lesson may be colors, the next clothes and begin to build two / three word phrasing (la camisa roja) etc. The quantity of material covered and pace is different for each class and is determined by each teacher based upon the students' understanding and progress.

Suggestions: Pre-K - 1st..

DVD: Barney the Purple Dinosaur for colors, shapes, numbers and his goodbye song. Go to 'Settings' select Spanish Language. These translations are well done with clear diction, accent and slow speed of dialogue, easy to understand with clear and colorful visuals.

Music: Cri, Cri (amazon) perhaps the Spanish equivalent of Mother Goose rhymes. Pick and choose the songs that support your lessons.

All Grades:

Using TPR: I often used objects in nature to illustrate the lesson. In Autumn, leaves changing colors or flowers to demonstrate size, S, M, L; review of colors and for the older grades singular and plural. Short sentences are made incorporating past/present vocabulary and students communicate these altogether as a class or in small groups.

Note: My curriculum emphasizes the ability to speak Spanish. The first day of class and throughout I review each and every letter of the alphabet allowing the students to listen to my pronunciation and allowing them to practice these sounds together as a class. This helps the students in speaking Spanish... day ONE! A positive note to build upon.

Additionally: Browse my store to find a variety of word searches, verb conjugation and vocabulary worksheets for all grades to support this curriculum.

I am passionate about teaching! I carefully authored and developed this tested / successful monthly curriculum outline with themed suggestions.
