Spanish Cognate and False Amigo Word Wall

Post these cognates and 'falsos amigos' in your room for the first day of school. Students can use them throughout the entire year as reference. They will be amazed at how many Spanish words they already know! Activities connected to this word wall/bulletin board may include having students search Spanish newspapers or children's books for cognates and make a list on paper. What cognates do they hear when listening to a video or the news in Spanish? Make it a game to see who can come up with the most cognates within a given time frame, maybe working in collaborate pairs or flexible grouping. Cognates (and the false cognates!) are the backbone to learning a language.
