Spanish Class Diego Rivera Lessons and Projects

Diego Rivera Spanish Class Lessons and Projects - Students will learn about the life, artworks, and two murals of Diego Rivera. There are discussion questions, a , a video, in-depth mural analysis activities, and two projects to create a mural in large groups or smaller artwork individually!

These lessons are for Intermediate proficiency levels.

• Cultural Mural Project with Rubric
  • In large groups, students are assigned a cultural event/historical event to recreate in mural form. They must research the elements, people, and history of this topic and create different vignettes to tell a story. Students will assemble a large mural, write descriptions, and give an oral presentation.

• Mexicanidad Symbols Project
  • Individually, students choose 3 symbols of Mexicanidad to draw and write about.  Then, they record a description of their artwork.  (Great for virtual learning). Rubric included.

Lesson Length

This will depend on how long your classes are.  At my school, blocks are 87 minutes.  We spent 5 blocks on this entire lesson unit.  (The Symbols of Mexicanidad project would add another few days.  In 2020, I chose to switch the mural project for the Mexicanidad project during virtual learning).
