DESCRIPTION:

This product is a collection of notes, worksheets, and activities related to Gender and Definite & Indefinite Articles in Spanish. These are great resources for your Spanish 1 classroom as you're teaching your students about gender and articles for the first time.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:.

• Notes on what gender is and how to determine a noun's gender, as well as what the definite and indefinite articles are in Spanish, and how to match the article to the noun in number and gender. The notes are available in three formats:

- PowerPoint: for you to teach from in class with your students.

- Fill-in-the-Blank PDF: for your students to fill in as you teach them the concepts. This type of guided notetaking allows students to spend less time writing and more time listening and learning.

- Filled-in PDF: perfect to give to students who need accommodations and also to give to absent students.

• 7 Worksheets for students to practice gender and articles:

Worksheet 1 is a basic gender identification worksheet, which is split into three sections:

-First, the students look at an ending and identify which gender nouns that end in those letters tend to be.

-Second, the students look at a word and determine its gender. The nouns in this section follow the rules of gender (o, ema, etc. are masculine, a, tad, ción, etc are feminine).

-Third, the students look at a word and determine its gender. The nouns in this section either break the rules of gender (día, mano, etc.) or don't have a rule to follow (mes, nube, etc.)

Worksheets 2-4 are basic worksheets for matching definite and indefinite articles to nouns, which vary in difficulty.

-The first worksheet is very basic - it only contains words that end in o, os, a, or as.

-The second worksheet is slightly harder - it incorporates words that end in ema, ama, or, ción, sión, tad, dad, and ora

-The third worksheet is the most challenging, including all the types of words from the first and second worksheet, plus adding in irregular nouns that don't follow gender rules.

Worksheet 5 asks students to fill in definite and indefinite article charts, and then they are asked to choose an article to match a given noun.

Worksheet 6 features a section of multiple-choice that asks students to select which option demonstrates the correct article agreement, a section for filling in the correct indefinite article given a sentence about a person in Spanish, and a section in which students must categorize 16 nouns according to their article.

Worksheet 7 begins with students filling in definite and indefinite article charts and concludes with a table that guides students through the thought process of choosing the correct article for a given noun by having them identify whether it is masculine or feminine and then if it is singular or plural.

• 2 Matching Activities for students to practice gender and articles:

Activity 1 focuses exclusively on gender. Students will be given 24 Spanish nouns on slips of paper. Their job is to glue them into the correct column on the worksheet according to their gender.

Activity 2 focuses on article agreement. Students will be given 24 Spanish nouns on slips of paper. Their job is to glue them into the correct box on the worksheet according to their gender and their number.

Answer keys for the worksheets and activities are included with your purchase.
