Description

This fun-filled Outer Space Unit includes 77 pages of cross-curricular space activities!! It covers science, literacy, and math! Teach outer space and objects in the sky with ease!

Included:

1. Objects in the Sky Picture Sort: Students cut and paste pictures and sort them into the following categories: objects seen at night, object seen during the day, and object seen both times.

2. Day and Night Pixar Short Activity: This activity includes a link to youtube to view the Pixar Short "Day and Night." This is a SUPER cute video that goes perfect with comparing the day and night sky. After showing this video, there is a printable activity for students to complete where they draw night sky objects in the "Night" character, and day sky objects in the "Day" character. They then write about what they saw. THE KIDS LOVE THIS!

3. Sun KWL, Moon KWL, and SUN vs MOON Venn Diagram!

4. Phases of the Moon: Moon Cycle cut & paste worksheet. Students cut out pictures of different phases of the moon and paste them into the correct box in the cycle around Earth. Answer key included for this activity!

5. "MY OUTER SPACE BOOK" -- This is my FAVORITE part of the unit! an 18 page student book ALL ABOUT OUTER SPACE. Each page includes facts, allows students to write information or answer questions, and most pages include a space for students to illustrate. The finished products are SO CUTE. This comes with the choice of a full cover color, or a black and white coloring book style cover for students to color on their own.

6. Midnight on the Moon -- This is a GREAT Magic Tree House book that aligns perfectly with any outer space unit. It is just 10 short chapters and can easily be read aloud in one week. I have created a worksheet for each chapter. Each worksheet addresses both science themes, as well as important literary themes. These worksheets are included in the unit, along with a "Midnight on the Moon: The Sequel" writing prompt.

7. Writing activity! The following prompt lends itself perfectly to teaching writing with voice and mental imagery.

"Pretend that you have landed on the moon! Describe what you see, what you hear, and what is going around you. Be sure to use descriptive words and voice in your writing. Grab your reader’s attention with an exciting opening sentence. Be creative!"

8. "The View Through My Porthole" -- This fun art and literacy activity allows students to imagine that they are in outer space. They draw what they see through the porthole in their spaceship and then write about it. The porthole template included is adorable and these turn out great!

9. ODD (or even!) ALIEN sort: Students sort aliens with odd or even numbers into two columns labeled "ODD" and "EVEN" in this fun cut and paste activity!

CELESTIAL CENTERS! 3 math and literacy centers with outer space themes!

1. Astronaut Addition: MISSION: MISSING NUMBER -- Help the Addition Astronaut’s complete “Mission Missing Number” and get them to the moon! Match the fact card to the number missing in the addition sentence. A worksheet to record their answers is included! The worksheet could be done as part of a center/station OR separately!

2. RHYMING ROCKET: Help the Rhyming Rocket get back to Earth! Match the word on the rocket to the rhyming word on Earth. A worksheet for students to record their answers is included!

3. ON ALIEN TIME: Help the alien get back to his planet on time! Match the clock to the correct time.
