Sounder: Literature Unit

This 31 page literature unit for the novel, "Sounder" by William H. Armstrong contains lesson plans with Common Core Curriculum Objectives in reading, writing, speaking and language acquisition for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. This unit includes both a chapter by chapter vocabulary list (with definitions) and a comprehensive vocabulary page suitable for using as a student hand-out. Lessons focus on figurative language, intonation, making inferences, comparing and contrasting, characterization, and short answer essays. Social topics covered include prejudice, racial slurs, and bullying. Assessment options include student journals, short answer essay questions, and/or two multiple-choice tests. Answers are provided for all questions and tests. Two grading rubrics are also included for assessing reading comprehension and writing skills.
