What educators are saying

Perfect for my kiddos who are struggling with producing the sounds - especially my kids that qualify for speech services!
This is a wonderful resource. I especially like the real life photos of the mouth formation for my students. I use these when I introduced letters. I could see students watching and trying to make the correction formation as I showed the cards to the class. Thank you for the resource!

Description

*Sound Wall Bundle - Updated July 2023*

Printed Materials Available on Etsy (Click Here)

Sound Walls are a newer and more effective way of teaching children phoneme-grapheme correspondence (letter-sound knowledge).

  • Vowel sounds are typically separated from consonant sounds. Vowel sounds are often displayed in a V-shaped pattern referred to as “Vowel Valley.” This layout was designed to show students how their jaw drops lower or how their mouth begins to close depending on the vowel sound.
  • The consonant sounds are usually grouped according to their articulation (how the sound is made). It is especially helpful for students to see the consonants paired as voiced and unvoiced equivalents.
  • Sound Walls often include mouth articulation pictures. This helps students produce the sound with accuracy, discriminate phonemes, and match a phoneme (sound) to its corresponding grapheme (letter or letters).

Implementing Sound Walls is an instructional technique that aligns with the science of reading. Research shows that explicit reading instruction is beneficial for all students and necessary for many. Sound Walls explicitly make the connection from speech to print. Sound Walls provide a way for teachers to introduce the abstract concept of speech sounds and regular and complex letter-sound patterns systematically. Get started today!
