Songwriting Project

This song writing project has been a hit with my middle school choir classes for the past couple of years! They love getting creative and sharing their songs with the class. I've found it takes around 3 weeks of class time for students to plan, create, rehearse, and present their work, although your experience may be different.

Students are given the choice of creating a parody song (using karaoke backing tracks from YouTube as accompaniment) or an original song (using their own instrumental accompaniment). It provides opportunities for brainstorming, organization, rough draft development, peer feedback and reflection, and a final draft for performance.

Available as a fully-editable Word document (.doc) and aligned with the National Core Arts Standards with plenty of opportunities for assessment.
